She had good stats coming out of High School and was recruited to Arizona State so she has some talent. The key will be can the new pitching coach get it out of her as she has three years of eligibility left. She threw 50 innings last season as a true freshman, most of it in relief work. The freshman numbers were rough, hopefully a fresh start will help.

I have no idea what she's capable of. Obviously, the coaches see something in her. She will have to be coached up and improve tremendously to be successful at the division I level. Stats tell a story. She finished her freshman year with a 7.0 ERA. She pitched a total of 50 innings, giving up 71 hits and 50 earned runs. She struck out 33, walked 23 and gave up six home runs. Opponents hit .321 against her.

Arizona State is and has been a top softball program for many years going back to the late 60's. They won the natty twice in 2008 and 2011. They recruit nationally so Ms. Tipton, being from Tennessee, must have shown them something to sign her to such a top national program. Though her stats last season were less than impressive, hope whoever our new pitching coach is, can get the best out of her.

I agree with this assessment.

I said it earlier in this thread and I will repeat myself because it should be obvious to fans of all the UL major sports program. We will not get transfers from major programs without NIL money that have either not worked out for one reason or another at their previous program. If we can identify athletes with a high ceiling and have not reached their full potential, then we need to have good teachers on staff to coach them up. We are not going to buy athletes at the upper echelons of talent.

Hopefully part of this was adjusting to playing D1 ball. As mentioned before, Arizona St. thought she had talent and be successful at D1 level. Perhaps good coaching and having an opportunity for a fresh start will allow the young lady to reach her potential and be a quality pitcher for us.

The Sun Belt is one of the better hitting conferences; there will not be a really significant difference in quality of hitters faced.

I agree. The question is can this program attract upper echelon talent from the coaching fraternity in order to coach these players up.

Instead of NIL, could a pool of money be raised and pay out based on stat production, i.e. payout for homers, rbi, pitching wins, etc, etc...amounts based on size of the pool.
