Delbrey and Hoover both basically haven't pitched in two seasons, Noble had a 6 something era last season, and Mackles coming in from high school has walked more batters than innings thrown. We need veterans arms and the outfield situation is bad. We have two slappers in Williams and Ardion and Knox who redshirted, that's it. If they don't get any other outfielders from the portal we are in trouble because we have no outfielders coming in from high school. They might have to convert some infielders like Gabby to play the outfield.
Brooke Otto is certainly an outfield option. In her two years at McNeese she started 50 games, assuming my research is correct. She started 34 games in LF, 10 in CF, and 4 in RF, and 2 as an DP. Every game she played in as a sub, was in the outfield. She did not play an inning of infield at McNeese. Defensively she had a fielding percentage of 1.000. She had 91 chances and did not commit an error. She is also very capable of playing all infield positions. Nice utility player to have on the roster!!!

We also need a couple of power bats off of the bench which we don’t have.

Respectfully, I am not really looking forward to seeing a career .236 hitter with 7 XBH over two years at McNeese getting more playing time, regardless of how good she is in the field.

We need proven players not more sub/utility players. Not knocking the kid but since you mentioned her I did my research. In 2023 she hit .235 with 2 hr in 81 abs. In 2025 she hit .238 with 0 hr in 42 abs. Sorry in my opinion we need power bats in the outfield, not another defensive replacement. Four outfielders would still not be enough.

Exactly, against SLC competition. Unless something changes, another mediocre season ahead. None of McNeese transfers will lelp us at the plate. Just subs at very best.

We need power bats in the lineup first.

I’ll ask you because I know you have been around this program a long time and have great knowledge of the sport. What letter grade would you honestly give this offseason so far since the season ended May 9th to today?

You said we might have to convert infielders to play outfield. My only point was that Otto might be an infielder on the current roster that could make that move because of her experience, that you suggested we might have to do.

With all due respect, ask me that question when the fall semester begins and I might consider answering, but probably not, lol.
