They had a Freshman starting at Pitcher, Catcher, First, Second, a Sophomore at SS and Rt Field, along with CC returning and a few pitchers getting healthy......If they can maintain these young players along with adding a couple of power hitters this program has a strong foundation to build on. I feel the coaching staff did very well with the young talent showing much improvement through the season and dealing with the dude that raided our pantry to TT.
I hope to see several power hitters from the portal, hitters with more length especially in their arms.
There were 24 players on this year's team. Seven graduated. That leaves17. There are six incoming freshmen. That brings the number back up to 26. That leaves room for maybe two transfers.
If you want power hitters on the team, that means she will need six or seven transfers. In order to get that many, she needs to either backtrack on some of the freshmen that are coming in, or cut four or five players that are currently on the team. Coach Aly has some tough decisions to make. I hope she makes decisions based on needs and not feelings.
Last season, she was just a signee with no D-1 pitching experience when everything went down. She is 6' tall, throws 68 and now has a collegiate resume. Plus, there is lots of film of her for people to look at. Kudos to her if she really wants to stay and try to build something with Alyson. I hope that she does stay. Even though she hasn't put herself in the portal and is supposedly "off-limits", I am not foolish enough to believe that there isn't probably a P4 head coach somewhere that hasn't reached out to her old travel ball coach or someone close to her saying that if she puts herself in the portal, they can get her a nice NIL deal for her to transfer to their school. It's just the current reality of things.
Have the exit interviews taken place yet?
Unfortunately, our three power hitters regressed this year. Combined, they hit a total of eight home runs. So, what makes you think players on the team without the power to hit the long ball, can be coached up to do so?
