As of 1030pm last night 1003 players in the portal. This off-season will be wild with many players never playing ball again.

If 325 teams at 25 each = 8125 total players...
If 2125 are seniors, then out of 6000, 1000 are in portal in first couple hours, 16 percent. Seems impossible to fathom.

Or does portal include d2, jc, etc??

It is a lot, but using your example it is only 3 + or - per D1 team.

Good point, but its just the first day or so?
Or are majority right away and not the same "growth rate" per week??

There will be more. Generally, players do not enter the portal until their season ends. Expect a few more now that 48 teams have been eliminated from the tournament, and a few more after the Super Regionals, fewer still more after the WCWS.

If there is a lot of coach movement, expect more players to chose to leave as well.

In any event, pretty much everyone going into the portal will be there within about 15 days after the WCWS.

The list on D1 Softball is not official. The good folks there list girls who have announced their intent to go into the portal on social media. The 48 hours is the period between when the player officially informs her school of her intent to leave and when the school puts her name in the portal.

Any other numbers you see now are unofficial as well; the portal opens officially today.

Wouldnt that lead you to think the number is way higher. He couldnt possible know every player's twitter/social, or have time to sort through them all, and some might not have announced that way???

That's why decisions by the Cajun coaches need to be made soon. They don't have 9 months to figure it out. I'm sure they're working very hard, researching all of the players in the portal and figuring out which ones can help the team get back to playing softball like Cajun fans are used to.

I am concerned about Emily Smith. I know someone mentioned that she wants to stay and build the program back up but someone could offer her big $$$ that she couldn't say no to.
