Thread: PAC 12

Although across the country, we could do worse than being associated with Boise, Gonzaga, Colo St. and others. Since these are long term decisions, is there more risk staying put over the next 10 years than making a move? While there is high potential for continued realignment in the G6 level we've all learned its really hard to kill off a conference. A few years ago I thought CUSA was done for, but its been resurrected even if mostly misfits. We're kidding ourselves if we believe Sunbelt membership will remain 'safe' in the coming realignment. Our member friends will take off on us in a New York second if it benefits them. UL should be kicking the tires on the PAC. Although its high end G6, its still G6 with the risk of knowing another realignment coming less than 10 years from now.

If we as a University aren't actively involved in moving up, then we never will. Don't forget the SunBelt east schools are gonna bolt as soon as they can. If we aren't proactive with this stuff, we're gonna once again find ourselves still in the same conference with ULM and a bunch of new scrubs in a conference trying to work its way back up. People always talking about getting rid of ULM instead of moving up and away from them and this conference.

I apologize guys, I just realized I said the University needs to be proactive. LoL! We all know that will never happen. We're more of a reactive school. And in most cases, years, even decades late in reacting.
    Le sigh!

To answer the original question, it is an unequivocal YES.

How much additional revenue would UL have if it averaged 30,000 per game in football and over 8,000 in basketball? I doubt that we average 15,000 now, so that would be huge. Would a much better conference schedule improve attendance? How would this impact basketball attendance with our new coach. Gonzaga would be huge.

Washington State, Oregon State, Boise State, Utah State, San Diego State, Colorado State, Gonzaga, Texas State, Louisiana

Should UL talk to Texas State and approach the PAC 12 as a travel partner for them. Travel to the West shouldn't be any more costly than travel to the East. Would this greatly change the perception of UL to the public? We have the academics and the facilities. If the PAC 12 was willing to go as far as New Orleans, Lafayette shoudn't be a problem. Can we sell ourselves to the PAC 12? Do we want to make such a move or maintain status quo? The future may not bring any other options.
If that $$ amount is real, we'd be fools to not make the effort to jump. The East side of the Belt will jump ship in the next conference shake up, right away.

They'll invite Texas State. Texas State will accept.

The SBC will invite WKY. WKY will accept.

The PAC will revisit Tulane and Memphis next year. If we want to be included in that mix, the time to start lobbying is now.

If this contract actually turns out to be accurate, someone needs to ask Dr. Maggard if there is a push to build a larger Southern based G5 conference and coalition, maybe uniting with the rest of the AAC? That would certainly be in his and the universities interest.

Truth serum would show every school is thinking about greener pastures.

But while the rules have changed, UL’s best way forward continues to be doing everything it possibly can to make its football (for now) and men’s basketball programs a consistent success.

    It is harder than ever.

Louisiana has done the worst job of throwing their name in the ring of various conference shuffles.

Invite or not, that's millions of free advertising dollars lost.

There is no doubt a success football and basketball brand matter. But it's obvious that money is still a major driver when you look at a football program at Texas St and a decent MBB program.
