I have no idea what rights are currently being requested (some I'm sure are noble) but the comparison is confusing.

Shipley was 100% about using the absolute best qualified person(s) to fill any and all positions.

He is remembered fondly because he didn't care where the best came from or what they looked like.

If there had been an office of inclusion filling roles for Shipley's teams, only a few UL historians would remember who he was.

This is one of the issues with the current state discussion on this. DEI does not seek to hire someone of a "minority" background but that it gives EVERYONE a chance.
If I challenged you to show me an example of an unqualified hire of a female, person of color, etc I am pretty sure I could show you an example of an unqualified white man hired as well.
DEI is the new CRT for low info people.

I have seen students protest over many things, some of which I did not agree with personally. But I am proud that our students protest, and I think that involvement with political and social issues is the difference between a University and a vo-tech education.

I thought that was the way the Jesuits thought as well, and how they expect their students to think and act. I remember visiting Georgetown, and was surprised to see pro-choice student activists manning a table outside the Union. I asked them about it, they had a wealthy alumna who funded them. Georgetown wouldn't fund them, but it allowed them organize on campus and participate.

    Do you agree with that?

Or did your faculty at Jesuit High teach you differently?
What does being a Jesuit have to do with this? LoL!

BTW my parents were so welcomed that their native language was beaten out of them. Forcing the populace to conform to the "national culture" is a very slippery, very dangerous slope.
No one said they can't protest. No one stopped them or arrested them. We're free to also have an opinion that DEI is a waste. And also, that getting rid of DEI isn't getting rid of equality or diversity. I'm cajun French too, and guess what....we somehow still got equal treatment without DEI. Crazy huh?

This is like saying "I am not hungry, so hunger must not exist". Just because you have not experienced something is not evidence that it does not exist.

Kind of like our former president stating he was going to run for office with a woman of color?

The unqualified white man was hired too!

Irrelevant, I have been an unqualified hire before, they fired me after 3 months.

My post was based on the comparison being confusing to me.

Not sure how you correlate the two, but ok, great. Now explain how not having DEI is going to halt equality or diversity.
