That’s a problem everywhere. The homeless as a whole know where and when the grocery stores dispose of their “expired” products. There are encampments in sight every day people don’t slow down and see. The one that has recently commandeered the bus stop in front of Walmart on Ambassador is interesting. There’s several spots in a one mile or so radius of that one I could name.

You flat out need a vehicle if you don't want to get run over walking or biking.

The city has made efforts with a few bike lanes which is nice. Looks like more baby steps here. Good news especially since it's in the vicinity of the athletic complex.
Those bike lanes on Johnston are a death trap.

Speaking of maintenance, go take a look at the coulee bridge on Johnston across from Moncus from the Batteries Plus parking lot. I’m not a licensed engineer, but sure looks like a problem.

Nothing good happens when governments permit people to live in the streets and alleys. Not saying the government is deliberately promoting more substance use & drug addiction, but that's an offshoot of not reining in homeless encampments.

I asked a Police Officer "what would happen if a driver in a car turning right onto Johnston St., pulls out and hits someone riding a bicycle (or EV bike...) traveling the "wrong" way in the bike lane". He told me the driver of the car would be sited for failure to yield and the bicyclist would also be sited for riding the "wrong" way in the bike lane. To me, it does not make sense. Crazy.

Bike lanes on Johnston make about as much sense as teets on a bull.

I worked in Asheville, NC for a number of years...their homeless crises started out the same way with a few beggers standing at an intersection...within a few months, it exploded into homeless camps of upwards of 100 people...the state had to called in to bust up the camps and haul off truckloads of the trash. Old hotels are now used to house the 'campers"...it's a mess, and the county and city, which is Uber liberal allowed it to happen...years ago Lafayette wasn't like it is today

If you desire a vibrant homeless community, open a blood donation center. They will move in by the dozens.

    BOODOGGLE!

Mayor-President Mamdani Boulet needs to get a grip on the LCG purse strings.

Marketing 101. Very few citizens are going to ride, walk, or drive from a farmers' market to a football game. Two entirely different types of citizens. And "walkability" is a word that should not exist. Anyone elected to public office who thinks tax dollars should be used for "improving walkability" obviously has too much money in her budget.

    Q. How many LCG workers does it take to improve walkability or a smiliar public works project around town?

    A. Five. One to do the actual work, two to play with their phones while standing off to the side (preferably in a shady spot), one to lean on a shovel, and another to nap in the truck that was driven to the jobsite.

Time for a change. Cut taxes. Doge the employee payroll. Start at the top.

I don't mind my taxes going to "walkability". More people should walk and bike for transportation whenever they're able.
