Seeding Potential and Magic Numbers

We are currently in 7th Place in the SBC standings with 6 games left to play by all teams. Theoretically, we could still get the #1 seed, but in practice, that won't happen.

Remaining at # 7 is entirely within our control. If we win out, we will be no lower than # 7.
Our magic number to remain at # 7 is 6 over USM and Troy, 5 over JMU and 4 over USA. GaState is mathematically eliminated.

Our magic number to get the # 6 seed [and a day one bye] is 8 over Marshall or App. If we reach 8 over both, we will be the # 5 seed.

Since there are only 6 games remaining, and we do not play either MU or App, we need a little help to pass either or both of them.

Anything higher than # 5 is possible, but very unlikely.

Yes. To get the 6 seed, our magic number is 8 over Marshall or App. With 6 to play and no games against either, we need some help to get there.

You’re right; however, it can be done.

They just lost 2 of 3 at home to Troy who is beneath us in the standings - though we did lose two 1-run games to them earlier in the season.

A sweep of USM guarantees us a spot in the tournament regardless of how we do vs TxSt and regardless of the results of any other games. To remain at # 7 with 3 wins in our 6 remaining conference games requires 3 losses each by USM and Troy, 2 by JMU and 1 by USA. USM has App at home then us; Troy has at GaSt and USA at home. JMU has at Coastal and GaSo at home; USA has at Troy and ULM at home.

I believe that if we manage to win 5 of our 6 that we will very likely be the 6th seed.
