Great performance from Holzhammer tonight. Deggs said in the postgame he got shot up with cortisone this week to be able to pitch for his guys.

Been saying it for a few weeks now, this team is tough on the weekend. There’s just not enough pitching depth for the midweeks, especially all of these 5 game weeks. Troy lost to JMU tonight. Cajuns are right in the mix at the top of the conference, and getting healthy.

Good point. 5 game weeks really show our lack of arms. But we’ve also not hit well enough on the weekend to back up good mound performances. If that improves, we’ve got as good a shot as anyone to win 3 or 4 games in the tournament. Not sure what you need.

Somebody said yesterday we play good on the weekend. We lost 2 of 3 last week and have lost over 20 games. We don’t play well any day. People who think we can win the conference need to be drug tested.

This isn't "oh shucks our team isn't that good this year" apathy.

This is "what's the point of following this program if they've been relegated to minor-league status within college sports" apathy

Is that what’s happening here though? I have to push back when people try to pin situations like this squarely on NIL. McNeese isn’t out there flush with cash for baseball NIL. Neither is UTRGV. Then there’s the schools in our own league that have fielded Top 25 teams in this environment. Maybe they have more NIL than we do, but that shouldn’t be the case. We absolutely should be able to compete with the Troys, CCUs, and USMs of the world in NIL. We are still behind the times.

I was more referring to attendance.

McNeese will plummet eventually .. they just did the smart thing and hired a very good, big-name coach that most schools wouldn't touch because of his baggage. He comes in and promises a bunch of recruits and transfers that he'll help them get to P5 team, maybe even when he leaves for one himself.

They're "success" was built on promises of greener pastures elsewhere, and a 'who gives a s*** what people think' approach to marketing their program.

I don't think this season has anything to do with any sort of apathy because of NIL. I think if it were a situation where Morgan and Higgs had been poached prior to the season along with maybe Hammer or whoever else then you could say that.

But I think this has everything to do with the fact that watching this team play baseball is about as fun as pulling teeth. This may just be me, but I don't even feel like there is any sort of progression happening. I'd like to think that the freshmen are getting good experience, but are they? I guess time will tell.

I guess my answer is that its not a NIL thing. Its just plain zero fun watching this team. And yeah I'm still watching every game hoping for something to spark.

In the road, if it can happen to teams like Texas A&M and Florida who were in the national championship the last 2 years, it can certainly happen to us. We made 3 straight regionals and 2 straight at larges the staff deserves the benefit of the doubt to right the ship. It seems at this point of the season whatever will be fixed will have to be addressed in the offseason. Something isn’t clicking because lots of other teams were after all these kids and thought they were D1 ball players, they weren’t all wrong. Hopefully we can play our way into a regional so these guys can at least get the experience of it. We will need to address a lot in the offseason particularly on the mound.
