Give it some time and give the coaching staff a chance to recruit and bring in new talent. A ton of talent left this program via transfer portal and the late timing left the coaching staff in a very tough situation. I have faith Coach Habetz will turn things around starting next season and beyond. We just have to take our lumps this season.
Out of respect for you I will not put you on the spot and ask you to grade the team in the same areas that I did at the mid point of the season ( Pitching, Hitting, Defense, Baserunning, and Coaching) However I am realistic and feel like those areas were giving a fair grade as many others agreed and some even though the grades should have been lower. I can’t sugar coat what I have seen and like the old saying goes you are what your record says you are. We are average at best in my opinion. However I do think the program will rebound and will only project up from this point on. I also think everything will be fully evaluated from the coaching staff, to the players, to the support staff, etc. In Coach Aly I trust. Let's geaux and win the conference tournament!
The current five transfer hitters have 10 extra base hits in 250 at bats, only one of those is a homerun. For reference point Myhia Davis has 13 extra base hits in less than half of those at bats and she is a slapper. Our outfielders have zero homeruns. I am not going to do the research but the Cajuns are probably the only team in D1 with zero homeruns from the outfielders. If you want to talk about the returners only then you have to factor in that most athletes make the biggest jump from year one to year two under a position coach and that simply has not happen as only one veteran hitter across the board has improved. Everyone else is down. Every hitter that has left the program has also improved.
My concern is not about the transfers. Clearly, the late timing of Glasco's departure left us in a bind in regard to that. My concern is that both Slugging % and BA have declined sharply for returning players. I do not have stats in hand, but I am certain that BARISP has also declined greatly for returning players. These statistics are very concerning, and the fact that they are virtually universal among returning players makes me think that it is a coaching issue more than a player issue.
