Default UL Teacher Program Faces $3M in DOGE Cuts

Louisiana is expected to lose at least $128.5 million in federal funding overall through the efforts of DOGE...

...The funding for UL was slated for the “Grow Your Own” program, which addresses teacher shortages and was expected to impact more than 69,000 students. James Savage, spokesperson at UL, said the university is appealing the decision.

That's too bad. But with a national dept of $36,000,000,000 or more, we will all need to sacrifice a little in order to return some sanity to government spending. Everybody will need to do more with less, including UL and other public universities and entities.
    DOGE is doing great work!

Then why are we increasing national debt limit by $5 trillion to offset costs of extending the 2017 tax cuts?

Musk's goal has been to find $1 trillion in fraud/waste and has only managed to find and cut between $2 billion (based on NPR reporting) and $115 billion (based on DOGE's own claim reported by Fox).

    Who exactly is sacrificing here?

It seems like DOGE is mostly cutting programs designed to benefit the poor and middle class.

Meanwhile the very rich, who almost always pay lower taxes than the poor and middle class, get more tax cuts.

And BTW the new spending bill republicans are trying to pass will INCREASE the deficit.

    So to recap:
    - the poor “sacrifice.”
    - the rich get richer
    - the debt keeps increasing

And btw, all these state and federal cuts are having a huge negative impact on the university… including athletics.

Go get ‘em. Social Scty, Medicare, Medicaid and military all need to be cut. That’s the only $$ that will make any difference in debt. O and raise taxes. Now the debt can be controlled. Let’s see how many are ready to sacrifice.

DOGE is all show so far. Zero significant savings along with firing the young people esp high performers who were saving $$. They were the ones we were hoping would bring new blood and tech into a sluggish system. Now we’re back to the old timers. Looks like a scam to shut down programs. Ok by me. I’m old. You young whippersnappers. Good luck. I’m sorry we screwed it up.

I try to stay out of direct politics here... but you touch on a point that doesn't get discussed much. The cuts people are currently trying to make are in the smaller programs. The military + VA (and face it, VA is still a military cost) are 2/3 of the budget. They're cutting VA, which I think is a shame. Yes, the VA is a mess, but those men and women served our country, and we made them promises for their sacrifices... and for the sacrifices of their fallen friends.

The point is, the gorilla (guerilla?) in the room is being ignored.

And no, I don't know how or where to cut the military, and I don't even know that it should be cut. It's just that it seems to me that sometimes basic business management concepts often get left out of govt. We all get caught up in what we think, what we've heard, what we've been told... and few people sit down and really find out.

    And that includes me.

Now, back to our originally scheduled program...
