That was a great college baseball game. And a very impressive win for the Cajuns.
As much of a d-bag as their pitcher was, the dude is REALLY good. His only losses this season were when he gave up 2 runs to Coastal and his team got shut out, and tonight when he gave up 1 to us, and his team got shut out. He has a win over Texas A&M (who’s struggling but very talented) and a save against Texas. He’s also beaten Grand Canyon U and Campbell, who both have excellent programs.
That’s what Friday night baseball is supposed to be. Both aces threw 7 shutout innings and walked the lead off man in the 8th. Holzhammer got the job done, and their reliever did not.
Also, what a night for Carson Hepworth. The catch he made going back in CF was legendary stuff, and then he hit the GW homer. Awesome.
This team is tied for first in the league now, and as I said a whole back, can be very dangerous on the weekends. The pitching depth is too shallow for 5 game weeks, but they will be tough to beat in a weekend series, especially when Dylan Theut comes back.
Keep. Winning. Weekends.
Winning the conference would mean a lot of wins against some good teams. With a good showing in the tourney after that, being in the conversation for an at large wouldn’t be out of the question. But tournament seeding is huge with a shallow staff, so finishing near the top would be a big help.
That was fun. Friday night. You had a villain. An unsung hero.
The good guys won.
The way he was acting, I hope section A was letting him have it. From the hip gyration each pitch, to sticking out his tongue after outs, finger guns, dancing like an idiot, prancing around the mound. Dude was an absolute clown. It was every inning too. Took the L and should have taken a line drive off the shin for good measure.
