BB Final: UL 4, LSU 17

Oh man. I tuned out yesterday when someone said it was about to get ugly. Glad I did.

We are at least competitive in most of the games I’ve seen in my 35 plus years watching the Cajuns and I don’t remember a beat down like this.

This is why I am panicking.

The problem, which I will characterize the situation, is in the hands of the team. Their job is to fix it and avoid the 23 win season we are pacing. Their problem. I am interested in how they will turn the ship. We shall see.

It was an outlier of a game as far as throwing strikes. I didnt watch enough (nor do I know enough baseball) to know if its LSU taking more pitches, or us just missing that bad.

vs. LSU: 92 called balls out of 178 pitches (51.7 percent called balls)
Season: 1,663 called balls of 4,185 pitches (39.7 percent called balls)

The only other game that got close to 51.7% was the Southern game when we threw 47% called balls.

Those schools will get raided soon enough. The Cajuns will be able to compete for Sunbelt championships, but the ceiling will slowly be inched down from CWS, to "maybe a super regional every now and then", to "just get into a regional", to "win the conference so we can get our 1 berth in the tournament"

Agreed. Usually macro structural changes happen so slowly nobody notices until much later. MLB cut the draft again and again turning development over to college baseball. COVID changed baseball rosters in 2020, then the rosters and schollies got bumped up again. NIL money came in to play. Now all the talent flows to P5 and the rich get richer.

The Southern game looked like a JV game. About half way through that game I knew we were in deep trouble this season.
