They both hurt the program on their way out, but Glasco did so more out of necessity while Lotief did so out of spite.

Lotief was unemployed and just being hateful. Nothing would have made him happier than UL softball never seeing success again so he could claim the only reason the softball team was ever good was because of him.

I can't really fault Glasco for wanting to build the best team he could at Texas Tech.

While they both hurt the program, Glasco's actions were understandable while Lotief's were just petty and absolutely unnecessary. Big difference between the two.

Thank you for a well thought out answer. I tend to look more from a results perspective and we seem way worse now, but i appreciate your point of view.

Is it true that one of the tsab pitchers, went to HS in florida but played travel ball in virginia. That seems out of control, probably spent way more than a tsab partial scholarship is worth

If someone is footing the bill and the kid is good enough, it happens. Seen it in soccer years back.

There's lots of that happening these days. Knights Knation out of Mandeville had a kid from the northeast on one of their rosters. The Dallas Tigers are known to fly kids in from across the country for tournaments but that's the owner paying with his money to show off. Even the program we are with has a national team with players from Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, & Alabama.

Many of these use their youth teams to fund the "national" teams. The few Louisiana organizations with national teams thankfully don't do this & really keep it as cheap as possible for families.

Out of necessity? He had a full roster when he took over the program. It was his choice to purge the roster of everyone but 2 players when he took over the program. He was given a bag full of money by the Matador Club and he decided to use it to lure players that he was familiar with to Texas Tech. I was told he tried to get Landry but when she caught wind of him going after Canady, she looked at other options. I don't know if he offered Ellestad but I am not so sure she would have gone even if he did offer her as I was told their relationship wasn't the greatest. He was fully aware of the effect that his purchasing of the players from his former team would have on the UL program and the effect that it would have on the roster. But, Gerry was worried about his current situation and not his old situation. As for the players that left, I can't fault them for leaving to get a pay day.

Maybe out of necessity you mean that he has got to show immediate results to the Texas Tech booster club (or more specifically Cody Campbell) for the $1mill investment in Canady and the NIL money spent on the other girls on the roster. They just got manhandled by South Carolina this past weekend and Canady got zero run support. I will bet you if Texas Tech fizzles out this season and doesn't advance out of a regional, you will see a purge of their roster and another spending spree to get some sticks to support Canady for her senior season. I believe they will throw another big NIL offer to her to get her to stay for 1 more year and will go all out to get some big sticks in Lubbock to provide her some run support.

I cannot argue with any of this. I am a little disappointed in some of the girls, but it is certainly understandable to go after the money. As well as the girls who left here for Tech are doing, it is hard to believe that Canady doesn't get run support.

I know for a fact when Gerry called all the players to let them know he was leaving he asked all the seniors to finish their careers at UL. However when he wasn't certain if he could land Canady I heard he tried to land Landry. He wanted the sophomore class kids so that he could get two years out of them which bought him some time. I also know for a fact Brooke was never asked. She couldn't stand him. He had her bunting with runners in scoring position when she was one of the hottest hitters in the country. Alabama gave her some money to get a vehicle and that's mainly why she is their. She almost stayed at UL. Alexa ended up at TT when Coach Lacy was hired. Alexis didn't like Lacy. I am predicting Canady will not return if TT doesn't get to the WCWS.
