That is a good question to ask our head Coach. When do we have a press conference for softball.

Weakest position on this team is pitching. We have no strike out pitcher. We have 7 Seniors on this team. The 2025 softball recruits were recruited by the previous staff. The 2026 signees will be for 2026-2027 year. It will be interested what this staff will do going forward in terms of recruiting, whether freshman or portal players. How would you rate the Sun Belt conference softball this year. Are any team ranked in the top 30.
ULM has 16 hits. WOW
I will go ahead and play along since most folks on this site give me way too much credit as a softball guy. That was a bad decision. The runner at 2B was going to score on a hit anyway with the outfield playing back. We had two shots with Cissy and Smith to get a hit. We wasted one shot to advance a runner 60ft with a slow runner bunting.
I like this coaching staff but in my eyes overall they arel mostly lacking experience. Yes Aly has 25 years of coaching but she has zero years of having to make every single decision. She will have to improve on in game situations and that will take some time. I believe she will learn from those descions and chalk them up to experience. Lacy has mostly been an assistant coach with only one year of calling the shots. Shelbie is a suoer star but she is still only 2 1/2 years in and doesn't have much to work with. This is Shellie first time as the hitting coach on her own. It will take some time for those coaches to mesh.
As far as players everyone knows the talent that left. Keep in mind the two top pitchers on staff may not even pitch this season. We have six players that haven't played this season because of injuries and we have three more that have missed time due to injuries. That's over a 1/3 of the team. Glasco #1 class had 12 players and 3 1/2 years later only two of those players are Cajuns. The next few off seasons will be critical. The class that came in this year is Glasco class and every year his class has got worse since his #1 class. We needed those kids this year just to fill a roster. The next class coming in is also Glasco class and I will try to be nice but I don't see much help coming with that class either. I trust in this staff and I know they will get it all figured out. It may take a little time. I am hoping they can get hot at the end of the season and win the conference tournament.
I will join in as well and compliment a lot of what you said. I haven’t been very impressed with the in-game coaching quite frankly but they have a philosophy/identity they are trying to install, and I have no problem supporting it.
But I’m tired of the mistakes I don’t see at the HS level my kid plays at (an example is today with the baserunning..ball in front of you going 1st to possibly 3rd but likely not on a base hit up the middle…why is a D1 player looking at Habetz wondering what to do??).
There have been some fundamental mistakes that can’t be made at this level too often this season, and there’s a paralysis in decision making I am not understanding.
Transfer portal is unfortunately the improvement route now, and I look forward to seeing how Coach Habetz attacks it this offseason. Next year will tell a lot about the future of this program.
Dang, man! I mis-read the thread title earlier this evening and thought I saw 10-5 CAJUNS. I said to myself, “This season has pretty much sucked bllz, but at least we swept the Hoax this weekend. At least one thing hasn’t changed!”
