Thread: On Ostracism

  1. Default Re: On Ostracism

I’ve try, more often than not, to post box scores, regardless of outcome, and sometimes even during the games. What happens, ACROSS AMERICA, on fan boards, the thread dies when the team is losing and nothing is said until the UL athletic department puts together the happy spin.

Some find that negative, even some who claim win or lose, they support UL.

I don’t do it to praise or bash. A box score is numbers that explain the results. But across America, when it comes to student driven athletics, people want puppies and unicorn milk, not bad results.

At the time of this post, the above was the data on this thread. I know many people browse to see what is being said about UL athletics. I encourage people to make their voices heard and post. Are there abrasive personalities on Ragin Pagin, absolutely. However, this is the norm on sports message boards everywhere. Trying to create utopia on a message board isn't a realistic goal. Attempts are made to curtail posts that go off the rails, but the reality is there aren't enough hours in the day to monitor every post. I encourage people to post but be civil. Jon has invested time and funds into keeping Ragin Pagin operating and for that I am truly thankful. RaginPagin represents the diversity of our community, I again encourage people to join our community and make their voices heard, we are not an exclusive club.

University sports are a product. Must protect at all costs attitude is universal.

Here’s a good example of a university attempting to control the narrative. UCONN and Coach Hurley’s rant. Guess no press pass anymore.

The reporter who captured Dan Hurley's viral, expletive-filled rant following UConn's loss to Florida in the NCAA tournament is reportedly in hot water over the clip. UConn's director of communications Bobby Mullen reportedly threatened to "ruin" the reporter's life if he did not remove the video of Hurley's rant about the refs.

I came back here to re-read the comments.

I suggested an improvement. I never mentioned a utopia. I never even thought about it.

So why do some people, instead of engaging in useful discussion, simply distort the issue to the fantastic? What is the objective of taking a simple suggestion, and stretching it to the ridiculous?

    It's puzzling.

I think we can all fend for ourselves pretty good.

Because it’s the easiest way for people on the internet to believe they’ve won a debate.

Can we down-vote people we don't like?
