UNC, despite the program’s historic pedigree, was just 1-12 in Quadrant 1 games, which the selection committee determines as a game against a team that is ranked in the top 30 of the NET (the NCAA’s evaluation tool) at home, against a team ranked 1-50 on a neutral court, and 1-75 in away contests.

Shocking (not) surprising (kinda) that the guy in charge of improving Sun Belt Basketball was steering the committee when this decision was made.

Years ago when Scott Farmer was in charge of the Softball committee and stepped out of the room (for the same reason) at a time when Louisiana had the #1 OOC RPI in the country UL was downgraded, you had opposite results with the same excuse being given.

As a UNC fan, I have to admit that I was surprised they got in. They had a great OOC SOS but that's where it ends. They were 1-12 in quad 1 wins and even had a bad quad 3 loss at home to Stanford.

You compare them to an Indiana, who had 4 quad 1 wins and no bad losses and you can see right there that's one team that likely deserved to get in ahead of UNC. I'm curious to see what this does, if anything, in terms of motivation for the rest of the tournament and knowing how much people are angry they got in.

WVU deserved to get in as well as several other teams above UNC.
