Sampson wasn’t the catalyst. Tilman Ferreira and other deep pocket donors were.

In 2016 they built a $25 million, 53,000 sq. ft. practice facility for the basketball team. (Last year they just spent $4 million renovating it.)

The next year they spent $60 million renovating their basketball arena.

And in the age of NIL, they are paying their players as well as anyone else. Next year in addition to NIL the university will be paying a total of $18-20 million dollars to its athletes.

This is why UH basketball became a program that could compete with anyone. It took way, way more than just a coach. Sorry to be so negative, but there’s just no way we can compete in this world.

Too many other schools doing what they did (with lower results) for coaching not to be a factor.

Sampson may not be the best coach in America but it doesn’t take long to call the roll of those better. His teams play with so much grit that it makes it a blast to root for them. Quannas will have the Cajuns playing the same way. They work their rears off.

For all the hype McNeese didn’t even make it into the Top 50 NET rankings and was a 12 seed.
