Why can't we have nice things....

the Cajuns were called for 10 more fouls than Tennessee, who scored 23 of their 63 points from the free throw line. That's what kept Tennessee in the game, even after they took the lead for good with just over four minutes to play when a questionable reach-in foul kept the Cajuns from getting the ball back down 60-58 with 15 seconds left to play.

I just looked at the crowd and was like 'What just happened?'" said Brett Smith, who was called for the foul. "I couldn't have made that steal any cleaner than that."

I hate to say it but what they've done in Lake Chuck is encouraging. The Southland is a one bid league and McNeese State had not been to the dance in 2 decades prior to last year. A coach that, rightly or wrongly, understands what it takes to compete in today's game turned them around instantaneously. Get the community interested, get donor backing and get transfers that can contribute immediately. There's the coaching thing too. Have to know what you're doing.

Nobody in the SLC with the exception of MAYBE IWU (a private university) may pony up the money to compete for a title.

Also, it helped to leverage a natural disaster to host the conference tournament in the name of economic stimulus. At one point McNeese was scheduled to host ALL championships but that got tossed a year or so ago.

The SBC at least didn’t pull in a deep pocketed university. Notice how Liberty has been running over the CUSA with the exception of baseball, where DBU is years ahead of them.
