Don’t forget the NCAA took over the NIT and proceeded to jack over conference champions that lost in their conference tournament. Now, suddenly, most of their precious power conference teams are bailing due to “injuries”.
I think the NCAA will hold on to the NIT with the long range goal of breaking off the MBB power conferences (and the money) and the NIT will become the “all you others” national championship.
Just remember this if you get all jacked up over a “mid major” poll.
It will happen to CFB sometimes after 2031. And it will be the model the other sports will follow one at a time.
Follow the money.
Ironically even SECspn was whining today about costs of non football travel and the potential need for allowing teams to be in one conference for football and a different one for other sports, with the other sport conferences being regionally based.
Not an NCAA game, but some may be interested in knowing Arkansas State beat St. Louis by 25 in an NIT game tonight. St. Louis is in the Atlantic 10, thought to be a much better league than the Sun Belt. Earlier this season the Red Wolves won at Memphis and at UAB, the top 2 teams in the American. American Conference is also thought to be a much better league than the SBC. While nowhere near one of the top mid majors at this stage, the SBC is much better in basketball than some of you give it credit for.
