Thread: NCAA MBB Tournament

    UL Basketball NCAA MBB Tournament

Troy plays Kentucky as a 14 Seed on Friday. Trojans have a chance if they don’t turn ball over as they are excellent on the glass. McNeese plays Clemson as a 12 seed on Thursday. Will Wade will compete against an ACC foe. That could prepare him for next season as he may be at NC State soon

Remember the American was the hot non power conference 2 years ago? Only Memphis with a NET of 50 gets the auto bid for the conference.

The A2 conferences are so big now. Combine them with the Big 12 and Big East, they can technically play amongst themselves and pretty much shut the other conferences down to 1 bid each. Collusion?

Well UK doesn’t turn anyone over, so that shouldn’t be Troy’s problem. UK has a good 5-out offense, and they are a completely different team when their point guard (Butler) plays, and he is supposed to be good for Troy.

UK has been upset in their opening round 2 of the last 3 years, so they won’t be overlooking Troy. UK is terrible defensively…Troy definitely has a chance.

On the WBB side, the SBC rep, Arkansas State drew UCONN. That’s a quick out.

Back to the MBB side, the 2 SEC teams that didn’t make the big dance, South Carolina and LSU, get an invite to the NIT. Supposedly TSAB declined.

South Carolina did too. LSU had a losing overall record. I don’t recall any team without a winning record ever getting invited to a post season tournament.

Yeah, well UK is also one of the best offensive teams in the SEC so that balances itself out

Other big happening, the NIT and lack of P4 teams. Seems the “injury excuse” is most common, but players hitting the portal is more likely. Arkansas State is in.

7 conferences received multi bids and 24 leagues received 1 bid. 38 of the 68 bids went to the P4 plus the Big East. Something to remember when talking about how the Sun Belt is terrible in basketball. Middle of the pack of the 1 bid leagues would be more accurate than terrible.

South Al was offered an NIT bid, accepted it, then had it rescinded by the NIT. Ouch.

    Any reason to rescind?

Wow: UC Riverside had also received an NIT invitation, but had first committed to play in the College Basketball Invitation, a less-prestigious tournament. Then riverside "wriggled free" and bumped USA..... sad, they should sue
