Before we do anything, it has to start with a mindset.
For years here, we had a basketball staff that promoted what we DIDN’T have. (We don’t have money. We don’t have basketball culture in the south anymore. We don’t charter flights. We don’t have NIL. We don’t have this. We don’t have that.) That’s a failing model if you’re trying to make a sales pitch, and it showed by the awful attendance numbers even after making the NCAA tournament two years ago.
If we want to succeed here, Coach Q is going to have to go into the community and talk with small business and donors about his vision and what it will take to make it happen. Then, it’ll be up to the community to decide whether or not they want to participate. But in order to get that type of support, you have to ASK. In the past, we never did that. Hopefully, that now changes because his vision based on what we said in his press conference is the right one.
