Yea, it was different back then. There was none of that fluffy “time out” stuff. There was just “the belt”

There have been some really good times in the Cajun Dome and the Cajuns have had some good teams playing there. But for those of you too young to have experienced Cajun Basketball in Blackham in the very late 1960's and very early 1970's, you can't even imagine how good, intense, rowdy and enjoyable those times were.
Basketball at its finest back then. As students, we waited in line an hour before the game to get our seats. The best rivalry back then was USL v. LA Tech. Bo Lamar, Ebron, vs. Mike Green. Blackham was always packed and the games were awesome. We also had a hell of a rivalry with Lamar U. who had great basketball back then. Their coach moved on to UH and they have never been the same. I remember Sports Illustrated covering the Long Beach State game. Ed Ratliff was their All American player. If I remember correctly, Ratliff and Lamar played on the same high school team. Shipley went to scout Ratliff and ended up signing Lamar. What a coup that was for USL. Those who never witnessed USL basketball back then really missed something. Great memories!
The best days are ahead of us. We just have to show up and support Coach Q and this squad.
Don't see how we can be better than what we did/were during the Shipley years. Too much has changed and the difference in $$ makes this vitually impossible.
I've maintained my season tickets for basketball and will continue to support Coach Q and the program. He's certainly been a "splash hire" so far and I'm definitely looking forward to the season start!
