
Caleb Stelly's RBI single in the eighth inning snapped a 5-5 tie before adding an insurance run on a wild pitch as Louisiana defeated in-state foe Southern University, 7-5, on Tuesday at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
Stelly went 3-for-4 at the plate as Louisiana (8-9) was limited to six hits on the night but took advantage of 10 walks and seven hit batters issued by Southern (7-7) pitchers.
Louisiana scored four of its runs without the benefit of a base hit as Griffin Hebert scored from third on Mark Collins' RBI grounder to short in the first, Lee Amedee was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth before Hebert scored his second run of the night on a wild pitch.
