  1. UL Golf Potgieter Claims Louisiana Classics; Cajuns Finish Third Overall

Louisiana's Malan Potgieter overcame a double bogey on the final hole in regulation and defeated LSU's Alfons Bondesson on the third hole in a sudden death playoff to lead the Ragin' Cajuns during the final day of the Louisiana Classics on Tuesday at Oakbourne Country Club.

Potgieter finished at 9-under-207 to become the first Ragin' Cajun to claim medalist honors in the 40th edition of the tournament.

As a team, Louisiana posted a final round score of even-par 288 to finish at 857 for the 54-hole event and behind No. 7-ranked LSU (845) and No. 24 Texas A&M (847).

I realize most people don’t follow the golf team, but this is a remarkable accomplishment. First time a UL player has won the individual title at the Classics. Considering the players who have come through this program, that’s surprising and speaks to the talent this tournament brings in every year.

Also, hats off to the team. LSU and Texas A&M are top 25 programs. UL hung in there with them and also beat a top 40 Little Rock team. Program is having a nice year so far.

When UL finished dead last a year ago, there was a three page thread on it. Finishing 3rd as a team in front of a ranked team and behind 2 top 25 teams, along with the individual winner, no one talking.
Par for the course. Pun intended.

Great season the Cajuns are having. Malan seems to be the leader and is playing some amazing golf. The team scores have been more consistent this spring.

Very exciting finish to say the least! Anyone that plays golf and knows no. 9 at Oakbourne, knows how difficult that little hole can be, under pressure and with the typical SW wind blowing in. Congrats Malan! You will never forget those last four holes the rest of your life. And to the rest of the team, great showing at your home course! Keep it up and let's won conference again!

Keep up the great work Malan and company!

Bennett is on a nice run presently at or below par 9 rounds in a row.

Congrats goes out to the Golf Team for some gritty golf and of course to Malan for taking individual first place honors! All well deserved.

I was at Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Church last week and prior to the Mass, an announcement was made indicating that the intentions for that Mass were for the Louisiana Golf Team.

Typically, we might not pray for a win, but prayer intentions go out for special graces from God upon that person or persons for whatever reasons.

These intentions have immense power and countless miracles and conversions have occurred throughout the centuries by offering Masses for a specific intention or person.

Doesn't hurt for God to be with these young men, coaches and staff on the back 9, specially on the the dog-leg 18th!

Never, ever underestimate the power of prayer. God’s will is always the result we pray for, but He does hear us.
