Thread: College Basketball 3 Point Line

UL Basketball College Basketball 3 Point Line

Been wondering lately if the quality of the college game will benefit from moving the 3 point line out to match the NBA's 3 point distance of 23'9" from the center? Adds approximately 1'8" distance to players jacking up threes. Not suggesting this as a NBA fanboy, haven't really followed the NBA much for the past 20+ years. Seems like the college game could benefit by making the 3 point shot more challenging. I did read the current college 3 point line matches the international game standard, but so what. Our country has so many great athletes playing the college game. Coaches and athletes are adaptable.

Only way to help the game is to remove the 3-point line all together. Bring back the mid range jumper and interesting basketball. MBGA

Would have to disagree. Today's athletes are bigger, faster and stronger. Forcing all that into a tighter space would be chaos. With no threat of a 3 point shot, bottlenecking play would suck. Spacing out play, making the 3 point shot more difficult, I think would actually force more of that midrange game.

I disagree. There still would be nothing forcing any team to quit spreading the floor; in fact, teams with good inside games would likely do so to open up better shots from 15' in.

Nothing keeping them from spreading the floor? Let them. If they want to take low percentage shots from the outside for the same 2 pts they can get mid to inside, more power to em. What's the advantage of spreading out with no 3pt threat? Jacking up low percentage shots from 3pt land for 2pts?

Nope. Advantage is they have to come out to defend you. Can't just clog the middle and leave you uncontested outside shots.

The mid range game and free throws is the recipe for high scoring basketball. Todays game, especially Americans, is built around the 3pt shot and it’s killing basketball.

Funny how I still remember it was the old ABA that started the 3-point shot. Saw it with the old New Orleans Buccaneers that my dad would take me to see at the old Loyola Field House. Dad even bought me an official replica ABA red, white and blue basketball!
