Aldofo Iracheta Jr. is sitting behind bars at the Vermillion Parish Correctional
Facility after being arrested last night.

He's charged with first degree murder after police say he killed his 28 day old daughter.

Abbeville Lieutenant RJ Thibodeaux says "he didn't mean to kill his child, but unfortunately he did kill his child...in my opinion."

31 year old Aldolfo Iracheta Jr. was left alone with his 28 day old baby, but no one knows exactly went on in his apartment on 801 Wildcat Dr. Investigators say Iracheta called 911 to report that the baby was unresponsive but still breathing.

Lieutenant Thibodeaux said "he believes he may have injured the child in an attempt to revive the child."

The baby was first taken to Abbeville Central on Saturday and then transferred to Women and Children's in Lafayette.

"They put her on life support," Lieutenant Thibodeaux said.

The infant stayed there until she lost her life on Tuesday. Autopsy reports revealed her injuries where far worse than first suspected. She had a number of injuries but the biggest ----- a 3 inch fracture in her skull.

Dr. Reynaldo Dela Rosa, a pediatric intensive care specialist at Lafayette General Hospital, says "when you fracture your skull it means that your head hit something, a hard object or your head was hit by something."

Dr. Dela Rosa didn't treat the baby, but says attempted CPR wouldn't result in a fractured skull.

Police say Iracheta has a record of domestic abuse and possession of narcotics. His bail is been set at 1 million dollars.
