    Caught Stealing:

    My observations and conclusions:

Liscano has been a very pleasant surprise offensively so far. Roe and Credeur have started to pick up offensively as well. I am not as concerned on this side of the ball as I was earlier. We still have base running problems and leave too many runners stranded, but those problem areas will hopefully improve as the season goes on.

Pitching depth is a huge concern over the next 11 games. Hopefully, Clary will make a quick return and we can get Hoover and/or Delbrey back in action as well.

I remain cautiously optimistic about this team. The next 11 OOC games are all on the road and are a brutal gauntlet to run: Rutgers x 2, Auburn x 2, Iowa x 2, Alabama x 2, Mississippi State, LSU and McNeese. We also have the first conference series on the road at Marshall before coming home. If we can win 3 of the 4 Big 10 games, 2 of the 6 SEC games and beat McNeese, we may even be in the hunt for an at large bid, assuming we take care of business in the SBC. [LSU, MSU, Alabama and Auburn are all in the ESPN Top 25 this week, and Ole Miss is receiving votes].

I think this team is doing fine. They are getting into the part of the schedule that hopefully won’t beat them down mentally.

While I’d love to see them in the hunt for an at-large, I think realistically it’s conf tournament or bust. For what Coach Habetz walked into, I think she and her staff deserve a lot of credit for what they’ve put together.

Getting everyone healthy would be a big plus. I think they have 8 kids banged up.

What the pitching situation looking like this weekend? Is Clary back?

I agree that it is rather unlikely that we manage a winning record for the next 11 games, but it is not impossible. If we do get the 6 wins I mentioned, they will quite possibly be enough to get an at large if we get 18 conference wins. If we don't do both, it is definitely Conference Tournament or bust.

I have no idea whether Clary will be back. Word earlier was that she might be back last weekend, but with the 2 Sunday games cancelled, we just don't know if she was.

With 5 games in 3 days and the last 2 vs Auburn, then Mississippi State 3 days later, pitching depth is going to be an issue, even if Clary IS back. I think we have to win 2 of our first 3 [Rutgers x 2 and McNeese] and hope we have enough left to win 1 of 3 against the SEC.

The following weekend doesn't get any easier. We have Iowa/Alabama double headers Saturday and Sunday, then LSU the following Wednesday. Iowa is 10-3, Bama is Bama and LSU is LSU. 2-3 in this stretch would be fabulous, 1-4 would be more realistic.

I don't know that we can reach even 3-8 without Clary, and I think to get to 5-6, we have to have at LEAST Clary and more likely Clary and Hoover available. To be fair, I believe that if Clary and Hoover are both available and if Hoover is returned to her best, we could possibly go as good as 6-5.

Yes, this week with no games will hopefully get Clary and Hoover available to at least pitch a few innings of relief for the upcoming, long road trip.

Good chance Clary will be back. Hoover still isn't ready.

    Bummer about Hoover.

I have heard Coach Aly will not have so many weekends with double headers as she puts her finger on the schedule. That may mean more weekday games in the future.
