Thread: What's behind UL softball's rising star Mallory Wheeler's breakout performance

  1. UL Softball What's behind UL softball's rising star Mallory Wheeler's breakout performance

When Alyson Habetz took over as Louisiana softball's head coach, there were many unknowns heading into the 2025 season, including in the bullpen.

One was freshman Mallory Wheeler. Louisiana was the 6-foot-1 pitcher's only offer, but she was a force on the mound for Jensen Beach (Fla.) High School.

“The coaching staff who saw her and said, you know, her velo wasn't necessarily what they thought it could be, so there was a lot of question marks about how she would perform,” Habetz said....

Still using Sam Landry's picture and called Shellie Landry her pitching coach. Pitiful!

Well..as far as what the writer can control, very nice story. Best thing about interviewing freshmen is they are typically raw in dealing with the media, so they give extremely authentic perspective.

Looking forward to seeing this young lady develop. They are clearly gonna lean on her.

I think Shannon Mia Belt has been doing a good job with her writing.

Unfortunately a good story doesn't change the overall culture

...In my days (20 years) as a Jostens Yearbook rep…..a lil Catholic elementary school had an All-State insurance ad next to a huge picture of the bishop with his hands extended…..the large type read “You’re in good hands”……I kept the account, since the Irish nun thought it kind of funny…….my wife and I had a laugh since she would become a State Farm……”like a Good Neighbor, State Farm is there” agent!
