It’s early, boys.
It’s early, boys.
Terrible inning. Nothing went right, error, HBP's, passed ball, 4 hits. Cajuns down 11-4, going to bottom of 8th. Not good.
Ouch. 11-4 now.
Friday was fun, but we won capitalizing on SJS errors and good pitching.
Outside of that, very disappointing start to the year.
Next weekend turns into a big series against a top 25 team.
Have given up 6 unearned runs today. Down 12-4 now. Give San Jose State credit, they took advantage of Cajun miscues and outplayed Cajuns Saturday and today. Need to flush this one and move on. Plenty of baseball to be played and hopefully better outcomes.
It’s early, but these games matter. Maybe San Jose will be a top 25 team by the end of the year. Or maybe they’ll be last in their conference. Either way we will feel the RPI hit one way or the other down the road. We have Nebraska and DBU coming to town for weekend series. That’s some tough baseball. And the SBC will be nasty again this year. This is a theme with Deggs teams - slow start and figure it out along the way. One of these years we will figure it out too late.
And for the record, I’m not panicking. Like I said, this has become a theme and I expect another good year of baseball. But for once I would like to see us start out hot and gain some momentum at the beginning of the season.
The guy for the Cajuns that was most impressive today was Tate Hess and the young man gets tagged with the loss due to 2 unearned runs he gave up. Sometimes the game delivers a cruel fate. Good to see him pitch well.
One of 2 fates await......
1. 2024 deja vu. Looked very suspect to start season (vs Rice)......looked so.so a few more games. It was 3rd Tulane game.where we finally shifted into a bracket worthy team.
2. We are what we saw or heard on radio We are decent, but just not bracket worthy.
Fixing defense is a given.....0% chance to win consistently with what we witnessed in field. To me the offense was more disappointing. If we don't figure some things out at plate quickly, Nebraska will curb stomp us next weekend.
