If pitchers, by chance, are all landing in the same spot, it makes sense a hole could form. Don’t see anything sinister, it’s just unfortunate.

I dug a trench by the rubber when I pitched. It didn’t bother or help me, but the opposing pitchers always hated it. Not saying it happened here, but pitchers play games too.

It was simply the 3rd day of multiple games and the normal wear and tear of the pitching circle. The maintenance crew added clay to the area before the game and tamped it down, but it didn’t have time to set so it was probably pretty slick. Nobody’s fault, just unfortunate. Hope she’s okay.
