I feel Jerry left because he saw the writing on the wall and that UL CAN’T compete at a consistent top25 level in softball anymore due to the transfer portal and NIL…. NIL and the Portal have made it nearly impossible to build a program at the non SEC/BIG Ten level…. Let’s make it clear that the SEC and Big Ten are head and shoulders above every conference when it comes to money…. In the end money will win you championships and build a winning program… WE DON’T HAVE IT… harsh reality is that this program will need to really focus on recruiting players who can dominate in this conference and then hope for the best at the national level…. The Glory days of UL softball empire are coming to the end unless NIL and Portal rules change. I hope I am wrong but the trend in college athletics is showing otherwise.
As long as roster limits remain, Louisiana has the oppotunity to improve its roster EVEN with Texas Tech type money being spent elsewhere.
Straw size recruiting works in Louisiana's favor.
Geaux Cajuns
Exactly. If for whatever reason, let’s say, a rough stretch occurs, there’s “bulletin board material” right there on the wall affirming the tough stretch. It can snowball in a hurry.
CAH, out of all the latest “favorite son former UL” hires, is the only one coming in that has the pedigree for success at a high level. Fans have the expectation from the jump.
I think that’s a little extreme. Reason some may think SBC is a one-bid league is pretty simple: on paper, the schools who have been strong lost a lot from last year.
Texas St lost Mullins (ie..their team) and UL lost some good players to the portal. Think we’ve all learned what preseason predictions are worth.
It’s fair to wonder if Cajuns will be able to compete against the top 20-30 teams this year. Something tells me we’ll be ok.
I think the Cajuns are going to be fine as long as they can get quality innings from their pitching staff.
