Thread: What is the next step for Louisiana?

  1. UL Football What is the next step for Louisiana?

Head Coach Michael Desormeaux and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns put together a good season, the first of Desormeaux’s tenure as the head coach. The team started out hot, going 8–1 in the first nine games of the season before crashing down.

    Actually a good article.
The team will be alot different next year, but we have some transfers coming in to help get us to a SBC Championship and/or bowl game. The question and the challenge remains: Can Des win the big one? AKA SBC Championship and Bowl games which thus far he has not. Yes we won 10 games when no one expected that, but now the needle and the expectations move up yet again as they always should.

If Salgado can build (Assistants) what he was a part of in Buffalo [Bills] maybe we can finally build a defense which doesn't bleed out like every other UL defense. Brees proved it, score all day, great, need to find a way to limit what we have to put on the board.

I think it’s a little unfair to suggest Des can’t win the big one. He’s 0-1 in big ones, and that was the conf championship game no-show.

Bowl games are completely irrelevant in the current landscape. It’s a game of attrition since many guys are either sitting out (draft) or moving out (portal).

They are a financial drain on schools (ask the Sun Belt how far in the red these bowl games put them). Wish the playoff could get rid of them.

No issues with only having the Conference Championship games and the playoffs.

I would disagree with the 0-1 in big games comment.

Big games consist of Rivalries, P5’s, Bowl games and SBC Championships.

    Against Rivals: 4-4
    stAte 2-1
    USM 1-2
    App St 1-0
    Tulane 0-1

    P5 1-3
    FSU 0-1
    Minnesota 0-1
    Wake Forrest 1-0
    TCU 0-1

    Bowls: 0-3
    Houston 0-1
    Jax St 0-1
    TCU 0-1

    SBC ‘ship: 0-1

    This is pretty accurate, IMO.

Rivalries are never one sided, id like to see that as 6-2 or 5-3.

Winning 25% of your P5 games, I’ll take that given our history.

It’s the bowl games and the SBC title game that is a problem.

Not mad at most of this but I personally care zero about bowl games. They are exhibitions that give extra practice time.
