Thanks Jay, I am super excited about this roster and this season. I really hate to hear about Murphy Brooks, that poor guy has been through the ringer, I hope he is able to get healthy and get back to the Cajuns next season.
As far as the projected lineup that most of us assume, I really like this outfield (hitting wise), Stelly was a really good hitter last year and proved he could improve his defense, he is not a flashy CF, but he is amazingly consistent. Higsy just needs to stay consistent, he is a streaky hitter and a solid LF. Yuhasz has raw power, and I am excited to see him consistently in RF, I think we will have to find a late inning replacement for defensive purposes and that might be Maddox Mandino coming into CF and moving Stelly over to RF late in games or Brooks Wright coming in at times. But as far hitting, these 3 guys are great hitters with some real pop in their bats.
The IF is young and exciting, the veteran in that group is Lee Amedee and whether he plays 1st or 3rd, you will have a proven player in that IF. The other guys are really young and but extremely highly recruited players. Ardoin is a So, who signed with Texas, Markle is a So, who signed with Ole Miss and Cuff showed some serious ability last year in spot play.
And of course, Jose Torres behind the plate was a surprise stud last season. Losing a veteran backup catcher is a little cause for concern, but from what I understand Clayton Pourciau has a ton of ability, I am hoping we are able to give Torres sometime of here and there and we can get Clayton in some games to see his ability.
The one player I don't know very much about is Brooks Wright, a Freshman OF who will probably play a little DH and fill in at OF.
The starting staff of C-Mo, Herm and McGehee could be really good, if McGehee can consistently throw strikes than I love this staff. We know that Blake can strike people out, as long as he can cut down on some of the walks or getting behind hitters we will be in great shape. The biggest issue I have seen with him, was either the walks or just getting behind hitters where he puts himself in a challenging position.
I know we have a ton of young arms on this staff to go with veterans like Theut and Holzhammer.
Let's figgin' geaux!!!!
I was looking a few players from the 2024 roster who have moved on and a few that I am surprised I can not find.
Ben Robichaux is at SLU
Mason Zambo is at USA
Jackson Halter is at Marshall
Phil Brennaman is at Youngstown State
Colton Ryals is at FAMU
Jack Martinez is at Arizona State
Patrick Vienne is at SLU
Looks like we will see many of these guys this year on our schedule.
The two that I can't seem to find are:
Clay Wargo, who I thought was transferring as a Grad transfer, and was a quality backup catcher for us last year.
Steven Cash, who gave us some quality innings the last couple of years and should have 2 years left.
Wargo has retired from baseball. He is finishing his degree on line.
Brooks Wright can flat out run. Marusak-like speed. Like I said, this freshman class is the most athletic, maybe ever.
