Thanks!! IDK who was doing branding for the University in the 60’s and 70’s? I think they had a better understanding of how to brand the school as well as Ragin Cajuns!

With the script text, to the Acadiana Flag, to the University logos etc.

Instead we use outside firms from other areas to brand us that we spend thousands of dollars on.

That's the 40 year old problem, nothing was done outside of the SID's office to "brand" anything in the 60's...basketball took care of branding the school in the early 70's along with the strip etc. Augie did his part in the middle 70's...Then the name change happened and it got really screwed up all the way around on what to call the University. And that is the root cause of all these "branding" issues...It seems no one can align the name or the recognized name of the school and Ragin Cajuns correctly. The best branding is consistancy of image and message. And it doesn't help that "Ragin Cajuns" has been co-oped by businesses and individuals who have no ties to the university. The way Martin Hall has protected the intellectual property of the school is the biggest mistake of the last 60 years....Branding, Its more than a mark on a bulls ass...

UL has failed to connect its 3 university identifiers, Louisiana, Ragin Cajuns and the FDL, to a branding initiative. All seem to be branded independent of each other. Whether we use Ragin Cajuns or just Cajuns shouldn't be any different that Notre Dame using the Fighting Irish or just Irish. Longhorns is co-opted by business and individuals all over Texas, yet is till clearly identified with the University of Texas. UL needs
to tie-in all three identifiers athletically. And, UL needs to better brand itself academically as well. No more use of Louisiana Lafayette. It doesn't matter what our official name is, use Louisiana academically as we do athletically with a singular reference to our official name. If we can use Louisiana athletically, we can refer to ourselves as Louisiana academically.

Here are some examples of how other universities brand themselves despite their legal names:

GA Tech - Georgia Institute of Technology
Fresno State - California State University Fresno
Nebraska - University of Nebraska Lincoln
North Carolina - University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
LSU - Louisiana State University Agricultural & Mechanical College (why not LSU A&M?)
Texas - University of Texas at Austin

Just about all of the major schools have a city tag and use it officially, but just about all references to the university are void of that. They are simply known as Nebraska, North Carolina, Texas, LSU, etc. It doesn't matter that our official name is University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Like these other schools, refer to ourselves athletically and academically by our branded name LOUISIANA. We have surpassed all the other state universities academically and are on an academic level with LSU. And, we have a UL alumnus as governor who went to Loyola Law School, not LSU. If you google Jeff Landry, you will find this:
Education: University of Louisiana, Loyola University New Orleans

If not now, when? Our time has come!

Heck, if left to a few, we’d have 2 mascots. “R” and “1”. We have a banner to prove it.

Keep Louisiana small when the crest is present.

    Shows more confidence.

I don't know, but usually, those kind of jobs pay for themselves.

Some jobs are crazy not to fill or create.

In the oldcdays fans had to request more "fund" raisers from the department.

The answer early on was (crazy as it sounds today) 'we cant afford another fund raiser.'

This was in the era when Gerld Hebert was doing it all.
