Thread: Coaches vote on a single 10 day portal window.

Default Coaches vote on a single 10 day portal window.

It still has to be passed by the NCAA D1 Council. Certainly a move in the right direction if passed.

I'm not confident that the Council will reduce the windows, but if they would push the Portal Date from December to January, that may help short term.

Right, seems like the coaches are tired of dealing with a portal after the spring training but the administrators might be thinking different.

I don’t see how changing the portal dates will stop bowl opt-outs. But I agree, at this point, anything to regulate this madness is a step in the right direction.

It is, but I see issues with timing coming up. Especially with so many schools starting spring semester during this time. Someone (lawyers) will make an argument that by moving the window it is infringing on the player's right to transfer to a new university, enroll successfully, and continue their education without interruption.

It may not, but it could delay them announcing their decision until after the bowl game. I watched too many bowl games that the product on the field was reduced because of players bought before the bowl game. Here at UL that means a player not having to enter the portal before the bowl game could possibly play in the game. Especially if the decision to jump in the portal is not told to the staff until the window opens.

Bowl for majority is the end of season. Stupid to have portal involved in any way before the season is over. Those who opt out/quit on team before season's end......that's their business.

    Exactly.

Unnecessarily distracting, and clogs the wire.

Window should be after spring practices. Gives players time to start at new school during summer and protects schools.

    I like that.

Is the portal only being open for 10 days meaning players only have 10 days to lock in their decisions to portal out? Coaches and portal players still have as much time as they need to recruit/commit?
