It may be a marathon but every step counts.
We can use that analogy. So, as a fan (child) and administrator (adult), if I wanted to go see my girlfriend and my parents told me no, my mom might say, "You will never see that girl again." I might respond, "I am still going to go see her no matter what you are saying." I sneak out to go see her, and my mom catches me. She might say, "I am taking away your cell phone, I am locking the door, I refuse to let you out of the house."
Let’s consider a different approach. As a parent, one might say, "Look, I have this nice girl over here. She may not be the same, but she goes to school, she has a good head on her shoulders, she goes to church. MOM and DAD (committee) discussed it, and we approve of this girl. Why don't you give her a shot?" I might then say, "Okay, I'll go on a date with her." As a parent, part of your job is to minimize things before they escalate.
So, if the University knew there was a need for a mascot, then they should have provided an alternative!
