It will be interesting if the money isn't raised and can't be refunded.

He has already stated he will use whatever funds he raises to be put towards whatever that amount can afford. The GoFundMe amount covers the cost of the costume + shipping provided in the quote provided by the mascot manufacturer.

I think the actual challenges beyond raising funds and creating a costume are:
    1. Legal action from the University
    2. Being sidelined by the University only able to make appearances outside of events or in the tailgate areas
    3. Finding a student willing to don the costume while shunned by the University
    4. Cost of ongoing maintenance/cleaning (the people wearing the costume will not assume that added responsibility)
    5. LA RS 14:313 being enforced by University Police (No person shall use or wear in any public place of any character whatsoever, or in any open place in view thereof, a hood or mask, or anything in the nature of either, or any facial disguise of any kind or description, calculated to conceal or hide the identity of the person or to prevent his being readily recognized.)

I think all of those challenges will unfortunately keep Cory's creation as a cool show piece in his house.

All that aside, I am a fan of a gator mascot. I just don't think this is going to work out.

I counted more then 156 people who work for athletics that are not coaches. i didnt look at the names some may be coaches. That they could of had a pow wow and discussed the mascot situation, and tried to do something. Have we seen anything a proposal, a letter, an email, a discussion from any one of this group of more then 156 support staff? Was there one person that took the initiative on our mascot situation?

Its like the tailgate situation, attendance situation, game day atmosphere, parking etc.. He is trying to take the initiative where the administration is not.

We could had this done when they got rid of Cayenne. Well if Cayenne wasnt working well you scrap it and come up with something new. That goes with all the situations dealing with this University.

This is inaction from the University Administration.

Have we had some community outreach on why people are not showing up to our games? Have we had some discussion with fans on why we getting 500 fans for a Basketball game?

You know he was concerned and when he first came up with idea, has he been contactted by the University? I dont think so? Have they had a discussion, an email, a phone call whatever? I dont think he has? I assume he never did.
He was contacted and told they have zero interest.

He is a long way off from being able to afford anything.

Well, then they knew! With all the discussion that has taken place in the last 3 years with this project, they knew people wanted a mascot and still did nothing!

Was there a committee put together to discuss the mascot situation? Were any details released about the committee's determinations? I know this is a bureaucracy and nothing happens in a vacuum.

Right then and there, it should have been discussed with all members. This discussion could have taken 5 minutes. Then put out that this is the committees findings

They could have taken 15 people from each department directly involved with student and fan engagement, gameday activities, or any other relevant departments, both directly and indirectly. This group would discuss the feasibility of having a mascot and what it would take to implement one. This group would have the most significant influence on our mascot situation. If they decide that a mascot is not needed, which seems unlikely, they should release a public statement explaining that they explored the possibilities and this is their determination.

    Bam! Done!

Wait, we got an email inquiring about our mascot situation. Let me save the findings to my desktop and inform the sender that this is our determination and solution to the issue.

    Thanks

He has stated that he’s helping create student organization that would help with the cleaning and upkeep. The Cajun Chicken wasn’t an official mascot. It was a grassroots movement just like this is and people got behind it including the university. I honestly don’t know if there was any backlash or negative comments about the chicken because it was before my time in Lafayette but based on stories I heard everyone seemed to enjoy it. I’m on board with the gator mascot and I’m hoping it’ll come to fruition

The people involved with the decision of a mascot are all on the academic side in the communications and marketing department. The athletic department isn’t the one that has final say.

Florida can be the Gators and we can focus on being the Ragin' Cajuns!
Letting Big102 be your guide? LOL

The last person I would expect to endorse it is the last legend. Bad guage.

None of this infringes with focusing on Ragin Cajuns

    Cajuns own Gators
    Louisiana owns Gators.
    The University owns Gators.

Get the connection, especially on the fun side of character imagination.
