Albino alligators actually exist and almost all of them have been found in Louisiana. 2.) If he was just a white gator then people would think the character represents white people only (I don’t that’s a sound criticism but I’ve read it several times). Him having an absence of pigment defeats any narrative that he represents one ethnicity more than others. 3.) If he was just a white gator, “why not only colors?” I’ve researched other colors, a white gator was the best option. Florida at one point had an orange gator, it looked terrible. So red wouldn’t work for us. Our fans hate the color black in our designs already, plus a black suit would be hyper absorbant to the sun here, creating a safety concern. A green gator would be closer Florida and it’s hard enough trying to pass a character that is the same species as theirs. 4.) I think having an advocate as spirit leader is very unique and has the possibility for a lot of heartwarming stories and moments. 5.) I’ve talked about how his name can change later but if I didn’t move forward with albinism being a part of his concept, then people would just see him as a white gator and then all the other stuff I stated would be back on the table.
But that still doesn't answer the question, and all of the explanations, stories, etc. in the proposals all ring as:

    1. Coming up with the concept first
    2. Shoehorning an explanation in later

I'm not saying the albino nature of the character is new; I'm saying the explanation of Albineaux being a pro-awareness campaign didn't come up until recently. Folks with and folks who know people with albinism have directly shared their concerns with you. Hell, even on one of your public posts on the baseball group on FB had a major donor specifically threatening to discontinue his $50,000 annual donation to athletics because of his connection to a person with albinism. The advocacy element really feels like it was added onto Phase 3 to try to alleviate concerns, but it's still a baffling creative choice to be this dug into the ground on.

But if I see us coming up short of the The Mascot Company’s proposal, I’ll have to see if there’s a company that could make the suit for whatever amount that we raise. As a filmmaker, I’m used to working with barely any money to make projects come to life, but I still have to deliver something. The people who donate believe in the project, so it’s my job to make sure I exhaust every avenue to see it come to fruition.
With all due respect, that doesn't answer my question. I don't doubt that you're going to try everything you can to get this done, but the question specifically was what happens to the money if it doesn't?

To be fair, I can't criticize you for believing in something, but my friend, the signs are right there in front of you.

Fix the name if you don't like it. If you don't like the color, then why have white as a color in the first place?

Or come up with something of your own if you think you can do better.
Do you really not understand why the university would not want to be associated with a mascot named after a medical condition?

SMH, avoiding the controversy of a “White” alligator, people still get offended.

How about, the white gator with our color scheme and history of alligators on campus makes sense. It looks frackin awesome and Corey has done all of this work on his own dime.

You’re being offended just to be offended. FFS I thought Cajuns were more receptive and resilient than this crap.

Keep it up Corey it looks bad_____

Also, it’s a F’n mascot. It’s not a name change or change from Ragin Cajuns. Just like Cayenne and the dumb bulldog.

You don’t need the university’s blessing right now because history has shown it can come later.

If someone said they would fund the suit completely if the name changed, I would do it. I’m not stubborn on his name. But I can’t do something from the opinion of someone who doesn’t like the project in the first place. Because a lot people do like the name.
I will be more than happy to say I'm wrong if I'm wrong. I just dont see you getting in the gates or the field without the University blessing.

Hell, we all have stories where we had issues getting into the stadium as a fan. Much less a fan with dressed like a white alligator.

I also have a story where I got run off the field while being escorted by someone from gameday management because I could not show "security" my pass. Good luck getting onto the field.

Then how about getting their thumbs out of their sphincters and coming up with something on their own? Or at least work with Cory instead of trying to ignore it into nonexistence. Or, perhaps even worse, letting it drop and then trying to clumsily create something on their own that's nowhere near as unique.

I get what you're saying, and it might be enough of a reason for it to not work. However, you have to admit that there's a pretty good seed of an idea here. If nothing more, I could see it morph into a light gray gator named Alphonse, but not changing much of anything else.

I just wish there was more support for an alum of this university who's putting this all out on his own, without any support. Instead of coming up with all the reasons why it won't work, let's find a way to breathe life into an idea that has so much potential.

If he gets into Cajun Field tailgate area its a win i say even if he doesnt get in and goes around before games, and waves his foot or paw or claw to some 5 yr olds and takes a picture and does a dance it is a win!

The concept of "a work in progress" answered that question for me so early on, I never gave it the time of day.

I'm surprised anyone would ask that question on an evolving concept.

Someone who's been disinclined to like the project from the start, would be my guess. It's easy to poke holes when you show up with your pike in hand already.
