With the limited talent on this team, you could very well be right on the total win prediction. Guys on teams that struggle who keep a positive attitude and focus have loads of respect from me. It is easy to do so when things are going well and issues are glossed over while winning. It is easy for us relatively non athletic fans to criticize or make fun of these athletes in the situation our MBB’s team finds themselves in. When I start thinking that way, I try to put themselves in their shoes.
Follow the money. Everyone playing is an extra day of the sponsor’s name in the media.
But I get it, circumstances can change by tournament time, but it’s so rare.
Those of us old enough to remember in the mid 70’s Tara High School out of BR won only 4 regular season FB games (all district games) due to injuries. Everyone got well, they ran thru the playoffs to a state championship. And this was before the days of power rankings, you had to finish first or second in your district to make the playoffs.
It can happen in a 14 team tournament, but a lot of stars must align.
I think, in this case, the league loses $$ unless they got a really nice deal on the facility. This was done to make sure a low seed isn’t the league rep in the tournament.
League wants a high seed to win it. Coaches want every team in it to keep their team motivated (and keep their job). This was the middle ground.
Everyone gets a made the tourney trophy is why there is little interest in the regular season.
Ironically, the so said reason for letting everyone in was because the bad teams (who knew they wouldn't make it) lost interest in the regular season.
Make Regular Season Matter.
I went Saturday.
Can you tell me how the attendance Saturday compares to the rest of the season? I thought it looked pretty full. Too bad we couldn't have scanned the people attending Rio as basketball fans...I'm sure Scout night helped too.
Also team is a typical Marlin team. No half court offense. 1 pass maybe 2. 3 point shot...
35% from the field is terrible. At least Free Throw Shooting is good tho right?
We shot lots of threes Saturday because of the zone defense being played by ULM. Late in the game, they went away from the zone and more drives occurred. Another way to get teams out of zone is to put a guy near top of key and to let him make decisions. Mo would be our best guy to do that with but he can’t hit a jump shot which is often open against those defenses. Fortunately he hit one late at Coastal Carolina to give us a win. That might be the only one he has knocked down all season.
Announced 2,005. Sounded a bit louder on TV than many other games this year, at least.
I think we've been averaging like 12-13 hundred announced.
