The last number I heard was between $8K-$10K.

Notice they are not buying starters from Tulane because the Wave can match their Cost of Attendance.
Can you explain how cost of attendance factors into what the player receives in cash? I am not understanding that aspect of NIL.

Des should do like Saban and co-own some car dealerships to make some of that NIL money back from the players in the form of car loan payments. Kinda funny, double dipping like that.

CoA is not NIL money.....it's school $ as part of scholarship. UL needs to triple CoA and the UH issue is mostly neutralized

Cost of attendance goes for things beyond tuition, fees, books etc. It is basically spending money. If you want an apartment nicer than what you would get in a dorm, the cost of attendance covers that. It allows you to have a vehicle as well in many cases. If you can't afford to buy a car, you can lease one. It would also allow you to take your girlfriend out on a few dates. I am not sure why cost of attendance calculation is so much more for a school like Houston vs ours. Both are public universities. This is an advantage for us however vs other schools in Louisiana. I don't think either Tech or ULM have the cost of attendance for athletes in their budgets. I also don't know if we offer that for any athletes beyond football and men's basketball.

A university calculates its "cost of attendance" by adding together the direct costs like tuition and fees, housing and meal plans, and then factoring in estimated indirect costs such as books, supplies, transportation, and personal expenses, essentially providing a comprehensive picture of what it would cost a student to attend for a year, including both on-campus charges and typical living expenses.

Key components of a cost of attendance:

    Tuition and fees:

The primary cost of attending classes, including any additional fees for specific programs or services.

    Housing and food:

Costs associated with on-campus living, including different room options and meal plans.

    Books and supplies:

Estimated cost of textbooks, course materials, and other necessary supplies.

    Transportation:

Allowance for travel to and from campus, including public transportation or personal vehicle expenses.

    Miscellaneous expenses:

Other personal costs like clothing, laundry, and entertainment, usually included as a set amount.

    Important points to remember:

    Variation by living situation:

Students living off-campus will have different housing costs factored into their cost of attendance, typically based on average local rental prices.

    Financial aid consideration:

The cost of attendance is used to determine a student's financial need and how much financial aid they may be eligible for.

    Not always the final price:

The cost of attendance is an estimated figure, and a student's actual cost will depend on the financial aid they receive.

So to me there seems to be a few areas, where universities can inflate these numbers. I wonder if this is done on the honor system or if there is some sort of auditing process?

Probably a fine line....you would wamt to inflate it to pay the athletes more but then the higher cost could scare away regular student applicants. Assuming what you pay has to match what you advertise

Need to round up bigly to neutralize the UH advantage. UH clearly found a way to pile on 3-4x $$$$ to their CoA to be over 30k.

Miscellaneous expenses = get very creative.

    Transportation expense = fuel/car insurance/Uber/vehicle depreciation....easy to pile on $$$ bigly here.

    Communication = phone/wifi/laptops/subscriptions.

Food....highest quality nutruition is extremely expensive. Round way the F up.

Lifestyle expenses....everyone needs stuff. No one goes to school naked.

    Get creative!!!
