    UL Football The Swamp

UL needs to find a way to tie-in the "on-campus" Swamp with the football stadium "The Swamp". UL also needs to have a FDL Fountain at the athletic complex similar to the FDL Fountain in the quad on campus. Perhaps when the east side of the stadium is finished and offices moved into that new facility, UL can create a quad in place of the old admin offices (Cox bldg.) to include that. I would also propose having the FDL Fountain encircled by lettermen bricks much like the on campus alumni bricks surrounding the quad. On each brick could be an FDL, name and years lettered. I'll bet each letterman wouldn't mind paying for their brick. It might also bring more lettermen back to games to show their families "their brick".

Since our athletic facilities are not on campus, we need to find a way to tie-in to both. We should embrace both Swamps and FDL which are unique to UL.

I think that idea is being floated around already

There is a walking/biking path that starts at the Ira Nelson center on Johnston Street continues down Johnston Street to Cajundome Blvd. It then follows Cajundome Blvd all the way to Eraste Landry Road through the Athletic complex and research park. The university does not own property on Johnston Street between Ira Nelson Center to Fire Station Number 5. There is a wide side walk on the North side of Johnston Street though.

I tried very hard to get the administration to trademark 'The Swamp' before Florida did. I had no luck.

UF filed the trademark. I believe they asked us to stop using it, and we complied.

That last part is second-hand, so I'm not sure. But I can't remember the last time I saw anything official from UL that used the name.

I know they have this sign above the tunnel. but notice its "Da" vs "The" probably to avoid any trademark issues.

If true, it should have applied for and or contested.

Crying shame, since Spurrier got the idea while discussing the scheduling of a game vs UL.

A media guide of Brian Michell was sent.

    "Sultan of the Swamp"

I would still contest the name, at the very least ignore.

UF is not going to object to a single sign. But we don't use it in any significant way, we don't disseminate it.

Apparently Florida has zero problems taking things from other universities and claiming it as their own.

The biggest example of that is Gatorade. Created by a faculty member at FSU 5 years prior to Florida filing the patent for it and calling it Gatorade.

    Im not sure either.

Doesn't seem like it sould have been granted with Louisiana having such a long history of usage in the same arena (pun)

First I hear of it for sure.

I wonder the result if either Clemson or LSU tried to trademark Death Valley

Bone headed move of the 20th Century to not legally claim/own The Swamp trademark....and then there's the that whole Ragin Cajun thing....
