It’s almost as if you should give people time and they might get the job done. I’m sure you set the world on fire In everything you have done in your life but not everyone can be as excellent as you are.

I get the stability factor but the "families want" idea is a completely false narrative.

15 years of constantly have 4-year contracts in front of him brought no fantastic recruiting classes for Marlin, nor did extreme stabity keep anyone from leaving. He had that problem before NIL or the portal

Louisiana has a great track record of keeping mediocrity, but normally contracts in hand rarely keep any coach home, when another $chool calls.

What families are concerned with is success and in the big picture success means the coach will be leaving soon. Meaning stability really is a non factor.

Next year however, is always a factor, I get that.

It's not a false narrative, that's exactly what mom wants to hear when you're recruiting her son. The ideal contract length is 3-5 years for a college head coach. We can't compare Des to Marlin because Marlin gave up on being great. Des is recruiting players to be here multiple years and play for a CFP. Marlin was recruiting one year players to plug holes of players that left because of him.

Moms want to know that a losing coach will be retained for her kids entire college experience?

    Im not buying that.

The only reason I can see for a school to push this false narritive is to slow down the rate of increase for a really successful coach.

In this age of the Wild West NIL, a coach staying is less and less important, unless that’s who is okaying the NIL. Momma wants that money.

Lets be real, we arent really recruiting the NIL kids. They turn into them once we develop them.

Recruiting is about relationships. Mom wants to know that her baby will be watched over and kept safe. I work with kids getting recruited, this isn't just some random opinion.

That's not the case with all athletes. Yes, some are only looking for money and some turn into that once the agents get in their ears.

I know you are more than qualified, an that it is based on experience, and I respect you for that.

My thoughts are not based on anything of the sort. I know that.

I also know it is used as a recruiting tool (a selling point) that parents will say yes it is important to them. They will say it openly and willingly. If the thought is planted.

I don't for one second think it is a deciding factor. I just don't buy in.

In my opinion if a coach approches with stability as a selling point he is dealing from weakness and not strength.

Except for Nebraska. They were when they joined the Big 10 but lost that membership soon after. I think it was because they didn't have the research dollars necessary.
