That may be true, Mike, but my statement still holds. If we want to be good, and our conference is mediocre, we should play up as much as possible out of conference. If we want to be good and our conference is good, we want to play up as much as possible out of conference.
I despise non D1 opponents, but it’s been a staple in basketball in the NCAA for decades.
One of the Cajuns most epic individual performances was Alonzo’s dunk a thon featured Fredonia State as the victim if I recall correctly.
If they don't count to those who decide NCAA Tourney bids, they are nothing more than pre-season games. They should not be in the season ticket package. They should not count towards contractual renewals.
If we ever want to be relevant again in MBB, we have to play and win in OOC games against at least 4 or 5 opponents in the top 100 NET, then win the conference. That may give us a chance at a 12 seed. Regardless of what excuses we have heard over the last 15 years, good, well coached teams win more than they lose, even on the road.
