Joel Fletcher established the SLI Foundation in 1957.

The first Director of the USL Foundation was Marion Lartigue 'Tigue' Moore.

In 1981, Ray Authément asked Alfred Lamson to raise $1M to boost the Foundation. (NB: Lamson was not an alumnus.) Alfred asked Ray for time to think about it.

He came back a few days later and said, "No.

"Small money is too difficult. Let's raise $10M"

Peels of laughter could be heard coming from New Orleans... until Al raised it.

At that point, Tulane & LSU both came to Lafayette to find out how he did it.

We have been blessed by many people, on campus and off, with great vision for our University, and our community.
