Only one that merits any type of consideration would be Brock Morris.
Plenty of time for nationwide applicants.
Love it.
This list just starts close to home, which is what Louisiana has been limited to recently due to the speed of developments.
These are the 8 candidates from the article list. Here's my assessment of their chances:
Brad Boyd - might apply, will not even be noticed
Neil Hardin - unlikely to be considered, may be allowed an interview as a courtesy for his years of service.
Johnny Jones - too old, unlikely to apply
Brock Morris - one of the three best options from this list. Has now worked at high profile programs, knows the expectations from this fanbase and the athletic department and has the skill set to improve the program quickly. Two other things in his favor: he left Marlin twice to improve himself.
David Patrick - the best option from this list. This is the prototype for what Bryan Maggard is looking for: years of Division 1 experience both as an assistant/associate at high profile programs, and successful experience as a head coach. At 48 years old, young enough to come in, elevate the program quickly and move to a top job in a money conference if that's what he wants, or stay and make this a nationally relevant program.
Byron Starks - third best option from this list, unfortunately, his Division 1 experience is two years here under Robert Lee. His other college experience is head coach in two junior colleges for a total of 6 years. Byron has had opportunities to move into Division 1 jobs and has avoided doing so. I think he's satisfied where he is.
Will Wade - he fails the character test, I doubt he even gets a sniff.
Derrick Zimmerman - he has the rest of the season to write his resume. What he does the rest of this season will determine if he even applies much less gets an interview.
David Patrick is the only person from the above list that I like as even getting an interview. It's not just being able to recruit, and knowing the Xs and Os of the game, it's now also about being able to bring NIL money, and scheduling well and advancing in post season play. I'm certain Bryan has a strong list of candidates to bring in. His list is way better than this list.
Doesn’t Patrick have a losing record as a college head coach?
David Patrick has had very poor results in his last 2 stops as a head coach. He will not be considered and I doubt seriously anyone on that list is seriously looked at. Dr. Maggard listed criteria. One of those was being a proven winner as a head coach or lead assistant working with a successful collegiate head coach. That eliminates the entire list in my view. Selection likely someone none of us are thinking about now.
