We had the beard thing going on and the students were a big factor. Basketball was exciting again.

When we beat TCU in the N.M. Bowl, that will open some eyes about UL football, then other sports and our overall facilities. IMO, when entering the CajunDome, the basketball set-up is very impressive. May not have the suites someone mentioned at mid-level but it looks great especially on TV. The CajunDome is a Big 12 facility. UL needs to keep pushing for a future Big 12 invite, especially once the football stadium is finished. The basketball hire is a critical piece of this.

Basketball does not drive the bus, football does. Just ask UCONN who has won numerous National Championships and can't get a sniff at a major conference. But it is a key part of an overall big time program. We are already there in baseball and softball and have big time facilities in both sports. And football is coming. UL has got to restore basketball to national prominence. Combined with football and baseball / softball, it will help propel UL to a higher level. Who knows where realignment will go in the future? UL needs to position itself for whatever opportunities may come its way whether it is a P5 conference or a realigned G5 conference with the top G5 schools. Basketball is needed to help make UL the #1 overall G5 school in the country and this hire is critical to that. This is the missing piece. Why not think beyond the Sun Belt Conference? Think BIG?
    Good post.

We didn't enter the 21st century in 2001. We entered it in 2000. It was a useless statistic to begin with but never mind you still overlooked the Denver win in 2011 anyhow.

I already admitted and posted I found that 2011 error. All I did was use the century mark the world uses not to belabor eras long gone. But hey, ok, y’all are right and the world is wrong.

The whole thing started because, once again, someone posted figures without looking first. I keep that jpg and another, and have posted both multiple times when people “misremembered”. Nothing personal, just keeping facts straight.

The century thing…we are almost a quarter century into the 21st century. And UL has had four coaches in that time. One had NCAA issues, one did not even coach due to resume’ issues, one couldn’t overcome APR setbacks, and one that stayed too long.

Need a home run hire. We’ll know around March/April.

    What does this even mean?

  8. UL Basketball 8 candidates to replace Bob Marlin

After 15 seasons, Louisiana men’s basketball has parted ways with long-time head coach Bob Marlin.

The Ragin’ Cajuns weren’t expecting to be on a nationwide search for a new head coach over the holidays but basketball is always unpredictable.

“I met with coach Marlin on Monday of this week and that’s when I informed him that we would be making a change at our head coach position at the end of the season,” UL Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Bryan Maggard said. “We gave coach that opportunity to think about it and he informed me that he did not want to go that route.”

No thanks to Wade. I would love for Brad to get a shot and be successful. I just worry about him not being in the college circuit. Maybe he still knows people and think he would relate GREAT with the supporters.
