Maybe they're letting him burn the program to the ground because we don't want it anymore......?

Technically you are correct but so is lcitsh.

If Lotief had to go, I doubt there are many if any other hires in the country that could have pulled the program back together the way Glasco did.

The crash and burn elements were all in place for Softball to be on a train destined for the same fate as Lady Techsters basketball.

I'd like CBM to resign or be shown the door, but that's easy to say because it's not my money.

But if you look at this situation as objectively as possible, SBC basketball is 1-bid sport, and it comes down to winning the SBC tournament. If you buy Marlin out, the season still has to play out. You're just poorer for it. Perhaps the boosters that would potentially buy CBM out will instead use those potential buyout funds to throw towards NIL for the next coach?

I type all of this fully aware we're 2 seasons removed from a perfect 14-0 in the Cajundome...but I think the results over CBM's tenure have been too inconsistent. CBM has the qualities you'd want in a coach, but the one quality needed more than ever is attracting top talent (in both players and NIL donors). Look down the road and see what his archrival is able to do in that regard.

CBM era has to be over after this year regardless of what happens midseason.

The 2023 season was an anomoly compared to a few average seasons in between. Since the 27-win season in 2018, we have had one postseason appearance with an average of 6th place in the Sun Belt in the 5 other seasons surrounding it. So that is 1 good season and 5 seasons with a 6th place average finish in conference. That is not good.

As for NIL, People aren't giving to NIL for basketball here because there is not enough people that believe in Coach Marlin. For example, the crowd on Saturday against Lamar was atrocious. No one believes in the current state of the basketball program outside of Coach Marlin's personal friends who also most likely make up a good portion of the NIL budget. It's safe to say that it is time to move on and start off fresh with something new.

Looking at CBM record here... he has had 3 great seasons. He is getting closer and closer to a .500 coach here. That shouldn't be acceptable espically when we have done so well in other sports.

    LFG!

Bob Marlin is a .750 coach here, and no one can tell me different. Our AD said so!

This was done to Huds wife when he was here!

He didn’t kill it either. Softball unfortunately will always be one bad hire away from being LaTech’d.

That's a matter of opinion and, unfortunately, we'll never know what could have been after the virus is what likely kept us from going to the World Series in Glasco's third year. The only thing Gerry didn't accomplish that the Lotiefs did is go to the World Series. He did everything else. The one thing he did do better than the Lotiefs is expand the recruiting base.
