Gerry was here 7 seasons. The Lotiefs, in their first 7 seasons, went to the World Series in their third season, when the format was 6 team regionals and the winner went to the World Series. The Cajuns, in Gerry's third season, had just completed their non-conference slate with the #1 rpi ranking in the country and the #1 SOS. We'll never know, but the Cajuns were definitely on pace to do what the Lotiefs did in their third season.
The Super Regional format did not begin until 2005. The Lotiefs did not make Supers until their 8th season, which they also won and went to the World Series. Gerry went to Supers in his 6th season.
My point with this is, there are so many Cajun fans that have the mentality of "What have you done lately?" I am in agreement, Bob Marlin should not be the basketball coach at this university. I told David Walker and Scott Farmer that when they first hired him. But, unless he does something illegal or immoral, he will not be released from his job, nor should he be. The administration deals from a position of honor and they will honor their agreement. At the end of the season, they will address whatever issues there are. It is likely that Bob Marlin may retire at the end of the season, but until then, he will continue to be the coach of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball team.
Like anything sports related.. its hard to compare different times. Mike coached at a completly different time in college athletics.
You had to bring up the 2020 season. You know that one still hurts me, you, and everyone else. Your correct I remember you telling me that Marlin wasn't the right hire. I'm just telling you the standards and expectations aren't the same for every program. You know and I know if this was going on in baseball or softball it wouldn't be tolerated. It's time to get rid of the good old boy system.
