The weirdest thing about coach salaries is that in most other lines of work it seems the places with highest cost of living have the higher salaries, but so many of the highest paid coaches are in very cheap cost of living areas. Then factor in how there is so much in their line of work they dont even have to pay for, that other jobs dont really offer....

It could be a very good philosophy to follow, risky though.
You make a good point, it could happen.

But look at Tech, McNeese, & even USM before Huff. All three were very strong programs for decades, and we can safely assume that they all worked very hard to hire coaches who would move their programs up.

It doesn't matter how strong your program is, it doesn't even matter how much money you have to spend (look at some of the hires that Texas, Georgia, 'Bama, and LSU have made over the years). Every time you hire a new coach, it's a roll of the dice.

That's why you don't get rid of a winning coach without a very good reason.

Many here, including me, thought Will Hall was a great hire for USM. Every program is one bad class away from snowballing down hill.
